In December, a mother found cameras hidden in her daughter’s bedroom and bathroom and called law enforcement.
That report set in motion a months-long investigation that would eventually result in the arrest of a Munford nurse on multiple felony charges.
Cameron Sanders, 33, of W. Rae Drive in Munford, was taken into custody away from his residence on a felony arrest warrant, then transported back to the home for the execution of a search warrant, according to the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office. Court records show he was also cited for driving without a license on May 25.
When deputies responded to the December call, they determined Sanders had been secretly recording the juvenile while nude. They obtained his cell phone and turned it over to detectives, who executed a search warrant on the device.
The volume of digital evidence led investigators to request assistance from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security.
What investigators found, they said, was “very disturbing.” A search of the residence produced the following:
- 116,000+ nude/explicit images
- 4,000+ nude/explicit videos
- 9,300+ suspected child sex abuse photos and videos
- 10 videos of the juvenile in the shower
- 2,400+ photos and videos of other unsuspecting females
- 8 firearms
- 1 residence searched
- illegal narcotics, including morphine, hydromorphone, Xanax and lorazepam
The more than 2,400 photos and videos of other unsuspecting females mean there are likely people in this community who were recorded without their knowledge and without their consent. They may have no idea they are in those files. Investigators are urging anyone who knew Sanders and believes they may have been a victim to come forward.
Sanders has been charged with aggravated unlawful photographing of a minor, unlawful photography, solicitation of a minor by electronic means, possession of a Schedule II narcotic (morphine and hydromorphone), possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance (Xanax and lorazepam), and unlawful possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. Investigators say additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
Sanders earned a Daisy Award in 2020. His nursing license shows no recorded history of state disciplinary action.
The case will also be presented for federal prosecution, according to the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Shannon Beasley addressed the allegations in a statement.
“I don’t even know where to start,” Beasley said. “The allegations in this case are deeply disturbing and strike at the heart of our responsibility to protect our children and youth. The exploitation of children in any form is reprehensible. The fact that Sanders works in a profession entrusted with caring for others makes these allegations even more troubling. Let this serve as a reminder that those who prey upon or exploit our children have no place in our communities. We will use every resource available to protect our children and hold offenders accountable.”
Beasley also commended his detectives and thanked the TBI and Homeland Security for their partnership in the case.
