The Tipton County Democratic Party will host a candidate forum for Tennessee’s 8th Congressional District on July 9
Four candidates are confirmed to appear: Gordon Bryan, Jordan Hinders, Heidi Kuhn and the Rev. Leonard Perkins. The forum will be moderated by Nathan Higdon, vice chairman of the Tennessee Democratic Party.
About the Candidates
Gordon Bryan is a Navy veteran who spent close to 35 years as a FedEx pilot out of Memphis. According to event materials, Bryan has spent his career in roles where people depended on him, and he says that is what he intends to bring to Congress.
Jordan Hinders served more than six years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers before continuing his service in law enforcement in the Memphis area. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science with a focus on international relations.
Heidi Kuhn has served as the Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk since 2018. Kuhn says her experience in the court system has prepared her to bring needed change to the district.
The Rev. Leonard Perkins served in the U.S. Air Force from 1973 to 1977. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Crichton College in 1995 and a graduate degree from Memphis Theological Seminary in 2012.
Event details
The forum will take place at Liberty Hall Event Center, 204 East Liberty Street in Covington. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the forum beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The event comes as Tipton County voters prepare for the 2026 election cycle, giving residents a chance to hear directly from candidates seeking to represent the district in Congress.
