Seven injured in five-vehicle crash involving school bus on Highway 59

Seven people were injured, one critically, in a five-vehicle crash involving a Tipton County Schools bus on Highway 59 South near the Covington Country Club.

According to the Covington Police Department, all seven injured people were transported to Regional One Health in Memphis. One person is listed in critical condition, while the other six are stable.

All of those injured were adults. No students were aboard the school bus at the time of the crash, and no children were injured.

Preliminary information indicates a vehicle was stopped on Highway 59 South waiting to turn into the golf course, with four other vehicles also stopped behind it.

Police said the school bus struck one of the stopped vehicles, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving the other vehicles.

The Covington Police Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol are investigating the crash. Tipton County Schools officials also responded to the scene and are assisting with the investigation.

Highway 59 South remains blocked as emergency crews work at the scene. Motorists are asked to avoid the area to allow officers, troopers and emergency personnel to continue their work.

Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact the Covington Police Department at 901-475-1261. Tips may also be submitted through the department’s Facebook Messenger account or the City of Covington website.

The investigation is ongoing.
