Tipton County health inspectors visited nine establishments between Oct. 4-10, 2026, and eight of them scored 95 or better. The one exception was The Munford Cafe, which landed at 88 on a routine inspection Tuesday, Oct. 6, making it the week’s lowest score.
The cafe at 45 Reeder Ave. in Munford was cited for four violations. Inspectors noted employees changing gloves without washing their hands first, a hand-hygiene lapse that was discussed with staff and corrected on site. The dish machine, an EcoLab unit, was not sanitizing properly; the cafe set up the sanitizing sink in its three-compartment sink so the machine can wash while the final sanitizing step happens in the sink. Whisks were stored handles-down in a container under the prep table, and an employee’s cell phone was left on a prep table.
Other inspections
One follow-up inspection was recorded this week. The kitchen at the West Tennessee Detention Facility in Mason scored 95 on its routine food service inspection on October 7, after an unlabeled spray bottle of sanitizer was found stored under a prep table. That issue was corrected on site, and the follow-up the same day came back with a perfect 100. The facility’s separate correctional institutions inspection, covering Units K and L, also scored 100 with no issues noted.
Covington Country Club Kitchen in Covington scored 99 on October 9; the only violation was a missing visible thermometer in an upright freezer. Gus’ Hot & Spicy Fried Chicken in Mason scored 98 on October 7 for having only one drainboard on its three-compartment sink and an employee drink stored on a prep table by the fryers. The Wing Basket #2 in Covington also scored 98 on October 6, with grease buildup behind the grill and fryers, dust on ceiling tiles, and a ladies’ room out of service because of a clogged drain; repairs were scheduled. Sammy’Scoops in Munford scored 96 on October 9, cited for coffee stirrers that were not individually wrapped, no test strips for the three-compartment sink, no self-closing device on the restroom door, and an employee drink stored on a prep table.
Two tattoo studios, L2 Studio in Munford and Hallow Tattoo in Stanton, each earned a 100 on routine inspections.
