A Munford homeowner found what appeared to be a hand grenade on their property Tuesday, and the Memphis Police Department Bomb Squad was called in.
Police say there is no danger to residents.
“We want to assure the public that there is no danger to residents and the situation has been safely resolved,” the Munford Police Department said in a public safety update posted Tuesday evening.
What happened
The homeowner, who lives on Lindsey Marie in Munford, found the object earlier in the day, according to the department.
Munford police responded and called in the Memphis bomb squad. The squad “secured the device, and transported it back to Memphis for safe detonation,” the department said.
Munford officers escorted the bomb squad during transport.
Police did not say whether the device was live or how it ended up on the property. They also did not describe it beyond what it appeared to be.
City and police response
Munford Police Chief Randal Baskin thanked the Memphis team in the department’s statement.
“We appreciate the assistance and professionalism of the Memphis Police Department Bomb Squad in helping ensure the safety of our community,” the statement read.
The City of Munford shared the update on its own page and added, “Thank you to all law enforcement involved for making this situation as safe as possible.”
