What’s your local government up to this week? Following is a list of the public meetings that are being held.
Monday, May 18
The Tipton County Regional Planning Commission will consider a rezoning request for the Turnage Store property Monday night, the most consequential item on a relatively quiet week of local government meetings.
The Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Tipton County Justice Center, 1801 S. College St. Christopher Evins has requested rezoning the Turnage Store property from FAR (forestry-agricultural-residential) to C-1 (neighborhood commercial).
The Tipton County Board of Zoning Appeals, scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. Monday at the same location, has been canceled due to lack of business. No variance or appeal applications were filed in time, according to the agenda.
The Atoka Municipal-Regional Planning Commission also meets Monday at 6 p.m. at Atoka Town Hall, 334 Atoka-Munford Ave. New business includes a site plan submittal for the Maple Woods Village subdivision and a sign permit application for Milestone Electric. The commission also is expected to discuss three holdover items from its April meeting: a proposed streetlight on Walker Parkway East, the possibility of running future utility lines underground following commissioner conversations with Southwest Electric, and farm-stand regulations.
Tuesday, May 19
The Covington Finance and Administration Committee meets at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Covington City Hall. The agenda includes a Human Resources report from Director Cody Bumpus; a presentation on the Project Play Revitalization Project from Parks and Recreation Director Molly Glass; sale of surplus city vehicles on the GovDeals auction platform and the purchase of a new police vehicle from Police Chief Donna Turner; and a budget amendment from Fire Chief Richard Griggs. The Tipton County Election Commission would regularly meet today at 3 p.m., however the body met last week.
Thursday, May 21
The Atoka Industrial Development Board also meets Thursday at 4:30 p.m., per the town’s online calendar.
How to participate
Most boards offer a general public comment period at the start or end of their meetings; the Tipton County Planning Commission specifically reserves up to 15 minutes for a public forum during its regular meeting. Agendas, where posted, are linked from each jurisdiction’s website.
