Tipton County Construction Update: Lane Closures on SR-3, SR-179 & SR-14

Tipton County Construction Update: Lane Closures on SR-3, SR-179 & SR-14

Three active TDOT projects are affecting lanes and shoulders on Highway 51 (SR-3), Charleston-Mason Road (SR-179), and the Hwy. 14 (SR-14)/Kerrville-Rosemark corridor.

Here’s a quick rundown of what’s happening, where, and for how long.

Hwy. 51 near the Tipton County Landfill

Crews are building a turn lane near the Tipton County Landfill (around log mile 7–8, between North Myron Creek and south of Old US-51) as part of a wider Hwy. 51/SR-3 widening project. The southbound outside lane and northbound inside lane are closed. Work started Aug. 11 and is expected to continue through Nov. 20, so plan on this being part of the regular commute picture for a while.

SR-179 resurfacing, SR-54 to SR-14

Here we call these roads 179/Charleston-Mason Road, Hwy. 54, and Hwy. 14. SR-179 is getting repaved between SR-54 and SR-14 (log mile 0–5). Expect intermittent lane closures in both directions daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., though crews are keeping at least one lane open. This project is scheduled to wrap up by Aug. 31.

Hwy. 14 / Kerrville-Rosemark Road widening

Heading toward the Shelby-Tipton line, the Hwy. 14 (SR-14)/Kerrville-Rosemark Road widening project continues, with shoulder and lane closures in both directions for grading, drainage, and paving work. A handful of side roads — Tracy, Idaville, Mulberry, and Gragg — are closed with posted detours, so give yourself extra time if one of those is normally part of your route.

This is an ongoing project expected to wrap in Fall 2027.

Nothing new on SR-384, SR-59, SR-54, or US-51

As of this week, TDOT isn’t reporting any active construction on SR-384, SR-59, the Tipton County stretch of SR-54, or US-51. That could change, so it’s worth a quick check before a long trip.

Plan ahead

None of these projects are full road closures, but lane and shoulder restrictions add up during peak commute hours. Give yourself a buffer, watch for workers and equipment, and consider an alternate route if needed.

We’ll keep tracking this list and post an update with anything new or wrapped up.
