What kinds of businesses are opening

The June filings reflect a broad cross-section of the local economy. Construction and home-improvement trades made up the largest single category, with four new filings: a residential and commercial contractor (Harber Built), a painting company (Osborne Paint & Repair), a cabinet installer (Procraft Cabinets) and a window-replacement business (Tico Windows).

Close behind were personal and professional services, also with four new licenses: a bookkeeping firm (Horizons Bookkeeping), a hairstylist operating out of a styling suite (Jacqueline Dixon), an event design and coordination business (PMC Signature Event Designs), and a residential cleaning service (Respectfully Clean).

Retail and creative goods accounted for another four filings, pointing to a wave of small-scale makers and side-business entrepreneurs: an author selling books through Amazon (Kalinda Makenzee), a maker of sewn bags and crafts (Sew Savvy), a custom apparel business (Southern Luxe Apparel), and a screen-printing and embroidery shop (Stitch-N-Time).

Food, hospitality and lodging saw three new entrants: a catering and food service business (Boricua Soul Kitchen), a grocery store (The Two Shugs LLC dba Turnage Grocery), and a short-term rental property operating as an Airbnb (Willow Oaks). Two automotive businesses also registered, a car-wrap installer (B Wrapped) and an auto body repair shop (O’Brien’s Auto and Body), along with a security patrol company (Cafaye Security), a media and printing business (Frame Forge Media), a dog-grooming salon (The Grooming Loft), and a youth leadership nonprofit (Chi Sigma Basilissa Society).
