Beard, Hobbs recognized as scholar athletes

Two Tipton County student-athletes were recognized Monday by the Memphis Chapter of the National Football Foundation as 2026 Scholar Athletes.

Ty Beard of Covington High School and Deacon Hobbs of Munford High School were among those honored at the annual event, which recognizes high school seniors for achievement on the field, in the classroom, and in their communities.

Beard, who carries a 4.36 GPA, has been a four-year starter for Covington, playing defensive back and wide receiver. He earned multiple All-Region and All-State honors, including 7-3A Defensive Back of the Year, and participated in three major all-star events. He ranks third in his class, serves as vice president of the National Honor Society, and is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.

He has committed to play football at Ouachita Baptist University, where he plans to study mechanical engineering.

Hobbs, an offensive lineman at Munford, was also selected for the Scholar Athlete honor. He represented Munford High School football in this year’s Liberty Bowl All-Star Game, one of the region’s top postseason showcases.

The Memphis Chapter of the National Football Foundation hosts the annual recognition ceremony to highlight standout student-athletes from across the Mid-South.
